The Fear Of Being Sober
72
Every person in the world has had, or have some sort of fear in them. Some like myself, have the fear of flying, the fear of drowning and hundreds of others fears that would be too long to list.
Some of us overcome our fears as we get older. For me, I was scared to death to drive over a high and large bridge. I would have to pull over before the bridge and have someone else in the car drive over it for me. My father owned a plane for many years and I was terrified to go up with him due to the fear of heights.
I have overcome the fear of bridges but never overcame my fear of heights and probably never will.
There are so many people in the world that have a drug or alcohol addiction such as myself. We want to become clean and sober but just don't know how to go about it. So we continue to drink and use and just wait for a miracle of some sort to happen to make us quit.
We tend to be frighten about entering the world sober and wondering how we will cope with anything in our life without our crutch to lean on.
This is the Fear Of Being Sober in my words. We are scared to death of leaving our addiction behind. We think that our addiction can't live without us. Well yes, the addiction can not live without us. We are the ones fueling the addiction that we have and as we continue to feed our bodies with more of the harmful substance our body just craves for more and more.
So many people want so bad to be able to give up alcohol but they have that one fear of being sober. I know I was so afraid to become sober and afraid I would get sick due to withdraw and everything that goes with giving up an addiction.
The more I thought about it I just decided that I had enough of this misery in my life and the misery I have cause my family all through the years of drinking.
I love life, as I sure everyone does, but how can we really enjoy what life has to offer if we are under the influence of any substance everyday of our lives.
Finding sobriety in my life is and always will be the best move I have every made. I have gotten so much closer to my family and friends and my wife that had put up with me for so many years.
Please don't fear to be sober. Anyone can achieve sobriety back into their life if you truly want it and you admit that you have an addiction and are ready and willing to surrender to it.
That is the first step. You have to want it and not let someone push you into it. You will know, as I did, when you are ready to surrender and once you do, your life will change so much for the better as it did for me.
When I look at the picture up top, it reminds me of peace and serenity and becoming clean and sober you will find peace within you that you have conquered your demons and won the war of your addiction.
Life is too short so, learn by your mistakes and live your life to the fullest and enjoy your sobriety. Don't cut your life short due to the Fear of Sobriety and due to an addiction that can be avoided with your own inner power.
Stay Strong to yourself, Believe in yourself, Think Positive always and you will be able to achieve your dreams, goals and your sobriety back into your life.

This title caught my attention...pretty clear writing for an alcoholic! Seriously, glad you are sharing your success and encouraging others.
You are right, everyone has some sort of fear. I hate to think of where I would be without the graciousness of God in giving me faith to believe what He says in His Word so I can enjoy His victorious power through Christ. We live in a fallen world and without His help we would be at the mercy of all that we fear, and more.
Looking forward to reading more of your work.
I've never thought about a "fear to be sober" as an applicable term. You have given me a new perspective. I do not know you personally, but I want to say: I am PROUD of you. You had overcome. Everytime someone is winning a battle, it makes the whole human race stronger. You have shown that it can be done. Congratulations!
Thank you. I´ve been trying to get sober for a long time and I suddenly realised it was my fear that was holding me back. Couldn`t find anything good but what you say here is so true. I hope I will be able to fight it off this time and stand strong.
Wish me luck!

so very true like I am always very afraid when the plane lands,I simply hold the front seat very tight and when the wheals touch the runway and plane settles on back wheals and runs for a while, and can hear the sound of the brakes, that relieves me back to my life, every time.Thank you so much for a nice one.
