How Living A Simple Life Can Be A Happy Life

Updated on August 23, 2013

This Is a Happy Life to Me !

Is Less Really More ?

We all have heard the words, "Less Is More" and when I first heard that many years ago it really didn't make any sense to me, but as time passed and I got older and wiser it all started to make sense and now realize that saying is so correct.

Many of us, including myself, seem to live for material things and want the best of everything even though deep down we know we may not be able to afford these fine things when the payments are due, but the banks grant our loans and we are the happy campers, for only a short time.

I envy those that can afford those fine things in life and many don't need to take out loans to buy those fine material things. Unfortunately, I was one of the ones that needed banks to help me out in my quest to buy things I knew I really couldn't afford. We are so happy when the bank says, "Yes you are approved."

In my case, many times the bank said those exact words and I was able to buy that expensive material thing not looking into the future of all the monthly payment and the interest that goes along with that loan that the bank was so happy to give me.

When we get what we want as far as material things and the loans are approved we are so happy, but as time goes by depression starts to take over because we wonder to ourselves, "did I over extend myself and buy something that made me happy in the beginning, but now can not afford?" We sometimes brag and show the families and friends our expensive material things and our families and friends say how beautiful, or how nice this material thing is as we now have to pay for those nice words for many many years.

Some of us just like to show off to our friends and family saying, look what I bought, not thinking just how long we need to pay for those material things that we were just showing off to our family and friends.

Sure they will say anything to make you happy and proud of what you just bought. What do they care, they are not the ones that have to pay for these fine material things right?

A Simple Life Can Be a Happy Life

You may wonder how living a simple life can be a happy life. I have found through the years that simplicity is the key to happiness, not material things. Love, happiness and fulfillment in your life should be the main thing of living a happy and healthy life, because as we all know that the stress of paying for something we know we can't afford can really cause depression, worrying, then in time may lead to health problems all over a material thing. This has happened to me and I am sure it has happened to millions of people throughout the world.

Maybe we can call it, "we bit off more than we can chew." I think that saying fits the bill pretty well, don't you?

MY EXAMPLE # 1

Source

i was fortunate enough to be brought up around boats, the Bay and Ocean. i learned to love that life style all through the years my parents brought me up to be an adult. We had boats from a row boat up to a 48 foot yacht. The Yacht above is close to being 100 foot in length and most likely having just about every convenience you would need for that perfect cruise.

This type of yacht is exactly what I wanted when I became older. As the years went by an I realized that it would be impossible to own something of this magnitude and beauty, so I settled for a 21 foot small cruiser. Even though the boat I could afford was much smaller with no bell and whistles like the huge yacht, my family and I had just as much fun in the smaller boat with no stress or worries about how I would pay for it. What i am trying to explain to you is that Less Is More in many things and life. You don't need to have the biggest, the best, the shininess material things in life to have fun.

I know some people personally that have the biggest and the best of everything, but the fact is they are really not truly happy. They are always wanted bigger and better of what they have now. I tend to think that they want bigger and better of the material things in hopes that the new material things will bring more happiness than the previous they had owned. Little do they know, that in my personal opinion, bigger and better might bring some happiness in the beginning until that thrill wears off and they need more. I may be wrong but I have seen this happen a few times in my life.  These people have told me that all the great material things they own they are not happy at all.  Sometimes people may think that material things can buy love and in some case I guess it does, but is it really true love?

It makes me really think that these people no matter what they have, a huge home, mega yachts and those fancy cars will never bring the pure joy and happiness in their life. These are only material things that so many people could purchase if they really wanted to.

I have learned that no material thing will make you happy and have a fulfilling life, it is You and You only that can bring happiness into your life.  You just have to look in the right places to find it.  You can not buy happiness or fulfillment in your life and I have learned this the hard way.

MY EXAMPLES # 2: OF LUXURY AND HIGH STYLE LIVING VERSES LIVING A SIMPLE LIFE.

Here in the above photos we have a huge mansion over looking the water and then we have the tiny shack over looking the water also. The mansion cost millions of dollars and well worth it and the tiny shack, who knows what that may cost, but no where near in the millions of dollars of the mansion price.

The point I am trying to make here is that BOTH HAVE THE SAME VIEW and it's just one owner has chosen the simple life and the other owner wants every luxury in the world. The views are the same and the price is much different.

SO, THE POINT I AM MAKING HERE IS THAT YOU DON'T NEED THE BEST OF EVERYTHING TO LIVE A HAPPY AND A SIMPLE LIFE !

This hub is in no way downing those that are fortunate enough to own the best and biggest in material things. It is only to show you that by living a simple life you can still have a happy life.
