How An Alcoholic Can Tell When Enough Is Enough

Updated on October 25, 2012

WHEN IS ENOUGH ENOUGH?

Are there any tell tail signs to an alcoholic when the time has arrived to give up the drink? How an alcoholic can tell when enough is enough is different with each individual.

Some alcoholic think it is never enough and just continue on their journey to the road of self destruction and then there are those that know it is time to quit drinking alcohol and that they have had enough, but are having a hard time figuring out how to go about changing their life and becoming clean and sober.

They have always depended on the addiction to alcohol to make some of their unwise decisions and when it come to saying goodbye to those alcohol demons they tend to be a little frightened.

They have lived with their demons of alcohol for some time and to just say goodbye is a tough thing to do for many, but not all.

MY TELL TAIL SIGNS

I'll try to gather my tell tail signs when I knew enough was enough when it came down to my addiction to alcohol, but first, when the alcoholic says to themselves enough is enough it has to be genuine and from their heart that they truly want to change their lives for the better and only they want to quit drinking and not doing it because they are forced into it or threatened to quit drinking. Once they have honestly said to them self they need and want to quit drinking is only then that they will succeed on their road to sobriety.

  • Families and friends start to become distant to the alcoholic.
  • People start to become short and to the point to avoid any lengthy conversations with the alcoholic.
  • Many will start to question your addiction and start asking family members, do you have a problem with alcohol.
  • Hiding behind your bottle because of embarrassment of your addiction.
  • Ashamed to ask for help do to embarrassment.
  • You will stop being invited to many functions do to how you act while under the influence of alcohol.
  • The people that are sober don't want to be around a drunk. You then feel like an outcast.
  • Drunks loved to be around drunks as we all know. Why? They all have one thing in common and that is their alcohol and their drunken stories they tell.

Take a look at your own life and ask yourself have you had enough? Is it time to make a huge change in you life for the better?

If you are addicted to alcohol or drugs think about just how your life would be being clean and sober. I have to tell you that if I knew just how wonderful sobriety was I would have thought about this years ago, but as many alcoholic are they, including me are just not ready to take action on our actions. When enough is enough your body will begin to tell you and if your are not sure about that just take a good look in the mirror and that should help you decide if you have had enough. After all we all know that mirrors do not lie.

Don't be afraid, embarrassed, or ashamed, just reach out for help if you think you need it and there will be many people there to help, but you have to make and take that first step towards sobriety. No one can make you do that, only you the addicted can make that happen.

Once you get on that road to recovery you will thank yourself for making that huge decision to change your life. You will find that your decision will be the best one you ever made in your life.
