My Sobriety

Updated on August 12, 2013

Life Of Sobriety

Sobriety could be the one word alcoholics fear the most. They fear to enter the world of sobriety all due to being out of that world for so long.

I happen to be one of those people that loved drinking alcohol and had the fear of being sober 24/7 all year long.

When I decided to enter my sobriety world it took some real thinking and planning for this huge change in my life. I often thought, what it would be like to go a day without drinking beer?

I also wondered, as I'm sure many people addicted to alcohol do, how can you enjoy a party, a celebration, a Holiday, a birthday party without having alcohol by your side?.

Finding Sobriety

Preparing For Sobriety

Preparing for sobriety is nothing like preparing to take a vacation. Many people make a big deal out of packing for a simple vacation. What should we bring? How much money do we need and everything that goes along with going on vacation.

Preparing to go down that road to sobriety and a life of recovery is a huge decision and one must be totally prepared for a enormous life change.

You must make a certain promise to yourself and that promise is, "I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO PICK UP AN ALCOHOLIC DRINK AGAIN". If you can't start with that one simple promise to yourself than you must stop and take a good look at your present life and the lives around you that more than likely are suffering and experiencing the pain of the alcoholic.

Becoming clean and sober is easier said than done, but it is totally 100 percent possible in each and every alcoholic. You must truly want to quit drinking alcohol and change your life in order to find sobriety. You can not say, "I will only drink on weekends or special occasions".

Trust me, I tried that line, and it didn't work for me, it was only a huge tease to my body. Yes, stop for a week or two and your body begins to get use to the absence of alcohol and then a party or that so called, "special occasion" comes up and you decide I'll have a few drinks, it shouldn't hurt. Guess what, you are right back into the day after day drinking again.

I'm not saying this is everyone, I'm stating my personal experiences. Others may be able to handle that special occasion drink and then walk away, but articles I have read, articles have written, experiences I have had and other people's experiences told to me, drinking now and then when you are addicted to alcohol just doesn't fly well with a person that is an alcoholic.

Willing To Totally Surrender

The question is, are you willing to totally surrender to your alcohol addiction or just tease your body and mind?

It is a simple question, either you want sobriety or you don't, it's that simple.

  • Change your outlook on life.
  • Start thinking positive.
  • Set your goal to achieve sobriety.
  • Plan your new sober life.
  • Be excited for yourself.
  • Be proud of yourself and what you are doing.
  • Ask for help if you need help during this change in your life.
  • Don't be embarrassed that you decided to become sober.

You will need pure determination, willingness, positivity, honesty and strength to help you along to finding sobriety. Never ever give up on yourself.

When you finally decide to surrender to your alcohol addiction you will see your life turn 180 and things will begin to get better in your everyday life, your family life and just you yourself.

You will not be sorry I can assure you. It was the best thing I could of ever done, and regarding having fun at that "special occasion" is totally possible without drinking alcohol. That I have learned, and believe it not, it is much more fun being sober at those parties and enjoying, remembering, living the moment all being sober.
